When Robert Goldwin put together a volume on the origins and program of the New Left in the late sixties, he wished to include opposing viewpoints. Critics of the movement, including Allan Bloom, Walter Berns, Harry Clor, and Sidney Hook, signed up and contributed essays. But, Goldwin lamented, “one after the other, leading New Left authors refused the invitation.”
